GRAND AVENUE FESTIVAL

On Sunday, September 28, 2008, from the New Mark Taper Forum down to the Central Library, Grand Avenue was abuzz with theatre, dance and music performances, museum and gallery tours, art and craft activities, open musical jam sessions and food. Guests at the New Taper were encouraged to explore the lobbies and lounge with a theatre scavenger hunt and were treated to a demonstration of stage trickery featuring the comic stylings of Herbert Siguenza of Culture Clash. Everyone was also invited to estimate the number of tiles on the abalone wall in the main lobby.

Here are a few stats from the contest…

TOTAL NUMBER OF ENTRIES: 88
LOWEST GUESS: 170 by Jacqui
HIGHEST GUESS: 3 billion by Hermina

CORRECT ANSWER: 508,000

In first place was Dana Pratt with 507,284 (under by a near-miraculous 716). Dana narrowly edged out her closest competitor, who guessed an even 500,000. To arrive at 507,284, Dana very scientifically postulated a result based on a perfunctory visual assessment. Yes, I’m sorry to tell all of you who calculated and figured and plotted and schemed, Dana took one look at the wall and guessed. For her efforts, Dana and are guest are seeing 9 to 5: The Musical at the Ahmanson Theatre. Congratulations, Dana!

Thank you to everyone who visited us at the Festival. We look forward to seeing you again soon along Grand Avenue.
