In honor of the renovation and opening of the New Mark Taper Forum, this year’s Poster Competition focused on the art and architecture of the theatre building and the role of the audience in the theatre experience. The theatre is a place of meeting and gathering, of communicating ideas both universal and deeply personal. We believe the theatre is a place where we all belong, that the theatre belongs to all of us.
In this spirit of inclusion, we opened the competition to include middle and high school students. Each age group responded to a different prompt and was judged separately.
Poster Competition judging was held at Center Theatre Group on Friday, May 1, 2009. The panel included Los Angeles artists Moshé Elimelech, Gus Harper, Jackie Nach and Roxene Rockwell; Center Theatre Group Art Director Christopher Komuro; and CTG graphic designers Charity Capili, Nishita Doshi, Haruka Hayakawa and Irene Kaneshiro.
