How Many Theatres Does CTG Have?
Three: The Ahmanson Theatre (at the Music Center), the Mark Taper Forum (at the Music Center), and the Kirk Douglas Theatre (in Culver City).
How Does CTG relate to the los angeles music center?
The Music Center is home to four non-profit resident companies, as well as being a non-profit itself: Center Theatre Group, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera and Los Angeles Music Chorale. It is comprised of four venues: Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Ahmanson Theatre and the Mark Taper Forum. The Music Center manages these venues and works with LA County, who owns the buildings, to help maintain the complex. It also tracks donations, presents dance companies, rents the four facilities, works with the catering operations in the complex and provides its own community outreach and educational programming.
Why does ctg solicit donations if it makes money selling tickets?
Ticket sales cover only a portion of the cost of putting on a show. CTG is a non-profit organization. So, unlike Broadway shows that have producers who invest money in a show, we produce shows using our annual budget.
What do my donations support?
Donations help supplement the cost of producing our own shows, as well as supporting our Education, Outreach and Access programs.
does ctg offer any access programs?
CTG aims to make all of our shows accessible to as many audiences as possible. In order to make this possible, CTG offers the following programs to provide greater access:
- Vision Access: Audio Description provides patrons who are blind or have low vision with experienced audio describers who guide the patron through the performance, describing the sets, costumes and action on stage. This is available during one scheduled performance during the run of a show. Binocular rentals are also available at every show.
- Hearing Access: All three theatres utilize the Phonic Ear FM broadcast assistive listening device system which is available at every show.
- Project D.A.T.E.: (Direct Access Theatre Experience) offers ASL interpreted performances and Open Captioning (an LED screen positioned at the foot of the stage scrolls through dialogue and sound effects as they occur on stage). Project D.A.T.E. performances are available during one scheduled performance during the run of each show.
- Wheelchair accessible seating is available at all three theatres.
- Hot Tix offers a $20 ticket to the general public and are available for most performances. To learn more about Hot Tix click here.
- Theatre ticket discounts for underserved audiences.

what type of new play initiatives does ctg have?
The goal of the New Play Production Program is to ensure that CTG remains a resource to the local theatre community and a national source for new, vibrant theatrical work that appeals to a diverse audience. This is comprised of four areas:
- Partnerships with Los Angeles Theatre Companies - CTG produces, co-produces and presents the work of one or more Los Angeles-area theatre companies and provides them with production, marketing and fundraising resources, thereby extending their work to a larger audience than they can reach on their own.
- Commissioning new plays, musicals and other projects
- Presenting and Producing Consortiums - CTG annually invests in large-scale productions from a wide range of genres and aesthetics.
- Artist Residency Program - CTG selects an artist (local, national or international) to participate in a two year residency. This gives the artist a chance to hone and produce work with local Los Angeles artists and ultimately results in a production. The resident artist also conducts a series of dialogues with local theatre makers and students.
