OVERVIEW

“Written with soul-searching honesty and breathtaking mastery.”

- San Francisco Chronicle

Octavio Solis | Lydia | Mark Taper Forum | Center Theatre Group"Playwright Octavio Solis has become an overnight sensation, and it took only 25 years. Long respected in theater and Latino arts circles, the writer is having breakthrough success with his play Lydia…"

- Article by Jan Breslauer
  Online at Los Angeles Times.

“Seductive and strong. Juliette Carrillo has directed with enormous skill and knowing compassion.”

- The  New York Times

“Prepare to be torn between two  beautiful women. The immediate quandary in Lydia is which of the two  enchanting young women to love most.  The Yale Rep staging is seductive and strong.   Juliette Carrillo has directed with enormous skill and knowing compassion.”

- The New York Times

“Octavio Solis's career has been  in steady ascendance over the past 15 years, with his plays frequently staged  in theatres in Western and Southern states. Both "Lydia" and eventually another  play — one commissioned by Yale Rep — will introduce this spellbinding  dramatist to audiences in the Northeast.”

- Hartford Courant

A lyrical  and magical meditation on family and cultural identity, LYDIA is an expertly crafted,  shocking play of discovery. The Flores family welcomes Lydia, an undocumented maid, into their El Paso home to care  for a daughter who was tragically disabled three days before her quinceanera. The two women’s mysterious and nearly miraculous bond threatens to expose  long-buried secrets and destroy the troubled family.

Set in the  1970s on the Texas border separating the United States and Mexico, Lydia is the deeply  emotional story of a group of people dealing with loss and teetering  between two worlds.

Mature  themes. Recommended for adults only.
