Introduction to Creating a Personal Monologue is a series of videos that guides participants through the process of writing a monologue. Teaching Artist, Aja Houston, introduces monologue structure, essential dramatic elements, writing exercises, and answering the ultimate question: What is a monologue? Playwrights, Amanda L. Andrei, Aja Houston, Hannah C. Langley, and Mary Lyon Kamitaki share a monologue from each of their plays and provide insight to their writing process. Viewers are encouraged to form a writers group and are guided through steps to create a safe space to provide productive feedback. The personal monologue expresses how a character (and the writer) feels but can also be the catalyst for a ten-minute play, a one-act play, a full-length play, an essay, a short story or a screenplay.
