'Traficantes de Amor' Ep. 2

An accident at the Tapatîo salsa factory leaves our humble protagonist Dionicio Galvan without parents. A tragedy that would ignite in him the drive that would define his life. He would be the perfect man. With no time for love, sports, or even the fascinating politics of the day, he spends his time crafting the perfect mind and body, the former being quite the popular topic of conversation at the local panadería here in the heart of Maywood, California.

Blessed with inexplicable powers of concentration that have saved him more than once from precarious predicaments; he can focus on the two things he has cared for most in this world: his job as Subregional manager in charge of workplace safety and regulations for OSHA, and his Abuela. Everything was just perfect.

But then….

Un accidente en la fábrica de salsa Tapatîo deja a nuestro humilde protagonista Dionicio Galván sin padres. Una tragedia que encendería en él el impulso que definiría su vida. Sería el hombre perfecto. Sin tiempo para el amor, los deportes o incluso la fascinante política del día, pasa su tiempo creando la mente y el cuerpo perfecto, siendo el primero un tema de conversación bastante popular en la panadería local aquí en el corazón de Maywood, California.

Bendecido con poderes de concentración inexplicables que lo han salvado más de una vez de situaciones precarias; puede concentrarse en las dos cosas que más le han importado en este mundo: su trabajo como gerente subregional a cargo de la seguridad en sitios de trabajo OSHA, y de su Abuela. Todo era perfecto.

About the Artists

Juan E. Carrillo is a playwright, actor and educator from East L.A. He has degrees in Political Science and in Chicano Studies from CSUN and has studied with Hector Aristizabal, Ping Chong, San Francisco Mime Troupe and Luis Alfaro.

Credits: Two seasons as writer for Center Theatre Group's Chisme y Queso; His solo performance pieces, Los Vampiros del Norte and Sueños Frosted Flakes were part of Center Theatre Group's Library Play Readings series. Sueños Frosted Flakes is published in the anthology Palabras del Cielo and was originally commissioned by the University of Puget Sound.

Andrea Buenrostro (Mujer/Aeromosa) was born in Tlatelolco, Mexico. Her first theatrical experience was in an acting and photography class for children. In 2012 she joined a small theater group and in March 2015 she entered the Teatro Nueva Estrella de North Hollywood acting school in North Hollywood with Pedro Mesta.

Andrea Buenrostro (Mujer/Aeromosa) nació en Tlatelolco, México. Su primera experiencia teatral fue en una clase de actuación y fotografía para niños. En 2012 se integró a un pequeño grupo teatral y en marzo 2015 ingresó a la escuela de actuación Teatro Nueva Estrella de North Hollywood con el maestro Pedro Mesta. Andrea ha trabajado en varias obras de teatro como Maricopa, Adiós Querido Cuco y Primera Escena dirigidas por Juan Parada.

Gilberto "Gil" Davalos (Narrator) has been an actor for 14 years. He has ventured into film, theater and television, he is also a theater educator. He graduated with a Bachelors in Communication Sciences from the University of Veracruz in 2002. He has worked in more than 16 productions of different genres and styles. Directors he has worked with include: Sandra Felix, Enrique Singer, Jesús Díaz, Sergio Cuéllar, Claudia Cabrera, Alicia Zarate, Lila Avilés, Eduardo Villalpando to name a few.

Gilberto "Gil" Davalos (Narrador) Es actor desde hace 14 años. Ha incursionado en el cine, teatro y televisión, además es maestro de teatro. Es egresado de la Licenciatura en Ciencias de la Comunicación por la Universidad de Veracruz en 2002. Ha trabajado en más de 16 montajes de distintos géneros y estilos. Directores con los que ha trabajado son: Sandra Felix, Enrique Singer, Jesús Díaz, Sergio Cuéllar, Claudia Cabrera, Alicia Zarate, Lila Avilés, Eduardo Villapando.

Gerardo Davalos (Editor/Chilin) is co-founder of Off The Tracks Theatre Company. He has acted in several of OTT’s plays including: Papá Está en la Atlántida, Epitafio, Are You Bringing Something from Mexico?, 13:20. He has acted, designed and built sets and props for staged readings that include Una Bestia en mi Jardín, Cosas Pequeñas y Extraordinarias, Las Arañas Cumplen Años to name a few. Gerardo was born in San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco and currently lives in Long Beach, CA.

Ha actuado en varias de las obras de OTT, entre ellas: Papá Está en la Atlántida, Epitafio, Are You Bringing Something from Mexico?, 13:20. Ha actuado, diseñado y construido escenografías y accesorios para lecturas escénicas que incluyen i>Una Bestia en mi Jardín, Cosas Pequeñas y Extraordinarias, Las Arañas Cumplen Años, por nombrar algunos. Juan Parada (Director/Dionisio) es un actor, director y maestro de teatro Nació en El Salvador y vive en Long Beach, CA. Tiene su licenciatura de CSU Long Beach en Actuación y Dirección y una Maestría en actuación del Instituto de Artes de California (CalArts). Es cofundador de Off The Tracks Theatre Company, una compañía comprometida a producir teatro en español. Actualmente, Juan es profesor de teatro en la preparatoria Aspire Ollin en Huntington Park, CA.

Lulu Alatriste (Abuela) was born and raised in Mexico D.F. She studied art and Mexican-Spanish folk dance. Upon moving to Los Angeles, CA, she continued with Folk Dancing and included Aztec Dance, art and other artistic genres and experiences. She has participated in several plays with Juan Parada that include Maricopa, Adiós Querido Cuco and Epitafio.

Lulu Alatriste (Abuela) Nació y creció en Mexico D.F. Estudió arte y baile Folclorico, Mexico Español. Al mudarse a Los Angeles, CA continúo con Folclor Mexico Español y Danza Prehispanica Azteca, arte y otros derivados. Ha participado en dos obras de teatro Maricopa y Adiós Querido Cuco y Epitafio.

Originally from the beautiful state of Durango, Pedro Mesta (Chakal) studied theater from 1998 to 2000. He took classes with the Constelación theatre troupe. Those classes were taught in those years by the master teacher Gonzalo Garcia. He made his debut as a theater director in 2007 with the play The Prodigies, Life Is Like This, Yerma, The Island Under the Seav, The Eclipse.

Pedro Mesta (Chakal) Originario del bellísimo estado de Durango hace ya unos abriles atrás. Estudio teatro por allá en el año 1998 hasta el año 2000 en las clases con el grupo Constelación, clases que eran impartidas en aquellos años por el maestro Gonzalo Garcia. Debute como director de teatro en el año 2007 con la obra Los prodigiosos, La vida es así, Yerma la Isla bajo el mar, el eclipse.

Victor Manuel García (Chicharon) was born in Mexico. When he moved to Los Angeles he became interested in studying theater. His theater training began with Constelacíon Teatro of Hollywood with Pedro Mesta. Victor has acted in several plays such as The Passion of the Christ, The Dance of Death, and Primera Escena.

Su preparación en teatro comenzó en la escuela Teatro Nueva Estrella de Hollywood con el maestro Pedro Mesta. Victor ha actuado en varias obras de teatro como La Pasión de Cristo, La Danza de la Muerte, y Primera Escena.
