2007: Ameenah Kaplan

Since winning the Sherwood Award in 2007, Ameenah Kaplan has gone on to choreograph award winning shows for the Kirk Douglas Theatre, Troubadour Theater Company, Celebration Theater and the Fountain Theater. In May 2013, Ameenah graduated from The Academy of Art University with a BFA in Directing. It was a long overdue BFA after leaving NYU to perform in Stomp. Her short film inspired by the 1928 documentary Man With A Movie Camera, premiered at Hollyshorts Film Festival in 2014. In March of 2013, she choreographed The Royale at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, for which she won an Ovation Award. She's choreographed on Dancing With The Stars as well as award-winning plays for director Shirley Jo Finney, including In the Red and Brown Water, Emmett Till and The Brother's Size. She just completed two seasons as a recurring character on The Office. Ameenah is set to direct The Royale at ACT in August 2016.
